Nestled between the Mediterranean, the *maquis* (scrubland), and hilltop villages, L’Île-Rousse is the perfect destination for hiking in the Balagne region.

Each route offers a mix of coastal walks, sightseeing, and excursions into the hinterland.

Whether you are an experienced hiker or prefer leisurely family strolls, come and discover the "Garden of Corsica"!

Hiking in L’Île-Rousse: The Pietra Walk

For a great introduction to the area, head to the island of Pietra L’Île-Rousse’s natural landmark for an 8 km round-trip walk.

From the town center, follow the Marinella promenade along Napoleon Beach before reaching the rocky islet, known for its ochre hues, maritime pines, and famous lighthouse.

Once you reach the higher ground, the panoramic view stretches across the Balagne coastline toward Calvi and the Agriate headland.

The site is particularly spectacular at sunset.

Exploring hiking trails around L’Île-Rousse

The Bodri Loop

This 10 km route takes you to some of the most beautiful coves in the L’Île-Rousse area, such as Saleccia Cove and the "Turtle Rock" (*Rocher de la Tortue*).

The hike starts at the village of Bodri a 15-minute drive away and takes about four hours to complete.

It is best to plan this hike for the morning, as the trail offers little shade.

Discovering Balagne’s hilltop villages on foot

Next, leave the coast behind to explore the Balagne hinterland and its character-filled villages.

Several trails wind through the olive groves, *maquis*, and villages surrounding L’Île-Rousse.

The "Stone Villages" circuit connects three iconic villages: Corbara, Pigna, and Sant’Antonino.

Another hike worth trying is the Santa-Reparata loop, which offers stunning scenery.

Head to the Ostriconi

Located about 15 kilometers from L’Île-Rousse, the Ostriconi Valley offers a wilder landscape.

A trail follows the river upstream, leading to the beach at the river's mouth.

Be sure to bring sturdy footwear, plenty of water, and good sun protection.
